LMOP Recognizes Six LFG Energy Projects

At the 2010 LMOP Partner and Project of the Year Luncheon, held on January 19, 2011, LMOP acknowledged six LFG energy projects for their excellence in innovation and creativity, success in promoting project development, and environmental and economic benefits achieved. EPA has posted a press release congratulating the winners on its website. The winning projects are highlighted below:

Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority’s Small Engine Project (Christiansburg, Virginia) — The Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority partnered with LMOP Industry Partner Green kW Energy, who designed, built, and now operates the LFG energy facility. The facility has two generators that produce nearly 160,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. Some of the electricity is used to power Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority’s offices and recycling center and the excess electricity is sold to Appalachian Power Company for distribution to its customers.
